Orient Manga, also called Samurai Quest, is the third Japanese work by Shinobu Ohtaka to be brought to the small screen in animated form after Sumomomo Momomo and Magi, The Labyrinth of Magic. Ohtaka began publication of this fantasy-adventure shônen titled Orient in May 2018 in the 26th issue of Weekly Shônen Magazine that year. The first volume of the work was released by Kodansha in August 2018 and currently has 12 volumes collected in the Japanese market. The story takes place in the 15th century in a world plagued by the Oni, evil creatures deeply respected by humans who do not know their true nature. Only the Bushi, brave warriors, are aware of the danger that these demons represent.
