Orient Manga, also called Samurai Quest, is the third Japanese work by Shinobu Ohtaka to be brought to the small screen in animated form after Sumomomo Momomo and Magi, The Labyrinth of Magic. Ohtaka began publication of this fantasy-adventure shônen titled Orient in May 2018 in the 26th issue of Weekly Shônen Magazine that year. The first volume of the work was released by Kodansha in August 2018 and currently has 12 volumes collected in the Japanese market.

The plot: The story revolves around a 15-year-old boy named Musashi and takes place during Japan’s Sengoku period. At the time, Japan was ruled by Demons and samurai were considered taboo.
Five years ago, Musashi and his best friend, Enrique, made a promise to become the greatest warriors in the world and defeat the demons together. But Musashi’s life has since been turned upside down by the occupation. He’s now being forced to become a miner, where he works long hours under brutal conditions for little pay. When he can, he writes in his secret journal about his hopes and dreams for a better future.
